A Win for Our Team | Liberty Grand, Toronto

A person’s high school sweetheart is usually just a little blip on their life’s timeline. It’s someone who comes into your life to teach you how to love, but who also takes leave so that you can use those lessons in your future when you find the true love of your life. There are a few great loves, however, who begin as high school sweethearts and never falter – such as Maddison and Evan!

Maddison and Evan were meant to be from the start. Not only is Maddison’s father, Doug Gilmour, the famous hockey legend, but Evan followed suit and become a successful hockey player who was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings. The sport runs through their veins and is a legacy that binds their families together in a very special way.

The wedding ceremony took place in the courtyard of the magnificent Liberty Grand. It was a beautiful and intimate gathering, filled with close family and friends who love and support the wonderful couple. After the “I do’s”, the party moved inside to Liberty Grand’s Renaissance Room which overlooked the glittering Lake Ontario.

The bride couldn’t have looked any more stunning in her strapless Kenneth Pool gown with its intricate beaded accents and her lovely embellished heels, and her handsome groom couldn’t have looked at her any more lovingly as she stood by his side. The champagne undertones that they chose for the flower girls’ headbands, bridesmaids’ dresses and groomsmen’s vests complimented the bride’s creamy bouquet and the groom’s boutonniere beautifully.

The reception kicked off with commemorative first dances and a touching speech from the father of the bride. The newlyweds sat at the head table with its rouched table décor, compliments of FOS, and basked in the warm sunlight as the sun began to set behind them. The guests’ tables were adorned with golden candelabra centerpieces filled with fresh pink and cream flowers, and they were privy to some very special wedding favors.

Being hockey fans ourselves, shooting this wedding was more of a treat than work! Speaking of treats, there was (of course!) a heavy hockey theme throughout the wedding which included personalized hockey chocolate bars and gold painted hockey pucks for the guests. The bride and groom added an extra personal touch by hand-making custom wrappers for the chocolates on their tables.

As the evening waned, Maddison changed out of her wedding gown and into her light and glittery prom dress from high school. It was a heartfelt tribute to the roots of their relationship. Not only have Maddison and Evan grown up together in age, but they somehow managed to do what so many other couples fail to do: they grew together as people
