Claudine + Steve are a very fun and interesting couple. After meeting through a good friend and spending New Year’s Eve together at the Cloak & Dagger bar 8 years ago, Claudine discovered that she was sharing drinks with a true brew master who created an award winning beer, and Steve discovered that he was in the presence of a successful radio/television major. Needless to say, they had plenty to talk about on their first date!
They share artistic interests and support each others endeavors, from Claudine’s career at CBC radio to Steve’s position as editor and art director at Firefly books. They also love to travel and enjoy hockey, which married well with their fancy high school dance wedding theme – “Varsity Chic”, if you will!
After a proposal at the Art Gallery of Ontario with a sweeping city view, Claudine + Steve found themselves at the Gladstone Hotel on their wedding day. They had fun with the theme and were determined to have a wedding that showcased their personalities.
Claudine wore a non-traditional short vintage wedding dress with a pretty birdcage veil. She didn’t look a day over sweet sixteen with all her exuberance as she tied her light pink satin belt and left for her first look with her future husband. She snuck up behind a dapper suited Steve who was beyond excited to see his sweetheart and planted a loving kiss on his lips.
I had a great time shooting their wedding portraits at the Black Dice Café. Claudine + Steve sipped some beers, chose a few tunes on the jukebox and played Pinball as they paid tribute to their first date.
Their wedding was large in numbers but intimate in spirit. At Gallery 918, guests enjoyed amazing food which was chosen with care by the bride and groom (the mini burgers and mini tacos were a hit!), and a live bluegrass band played for the first half of the reception before the dancing really began.
I love shooting couples that have the kind of history that Claudine + Steve have. I wish them many happy years and lots of adventurous travels!
